I’ve been programming for a long time, over 30 years, but my Achilles heel has always been art. I grew up doing some really cool stuff, by copying Iron Maiden album covers, but that’s as far as it went. Over the years I did finally figure out how to digitally ink stuff in the computer, but I still feel my pictures look flat. Now’s the time to fix this. I got
Drawing Basics and Video Game Art in the mail yesterday and I have high hopes. The book starts with the basics of drawing and then moves on to classical art before finishing up with some of the stuff done with computers. The author also says to sketch everyday, copying pictures from artist you like in styles you want. You’ll learn from it, even great artist like Michelangelo copied Greek and Roman sculptures.
This is a life long pursuit, and I don’t think I’ll get better over night. But I am going to stick with it. It’s not that hard to pick up pencil and paper. I better get to work.
