"Bloodbones"
This month I ended up buying Bloodbones, a Fighting Fantasy Gamebook written by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. It’s a new edition to the Fighting Fantasy series started by Jackson and Livingstone back in 1982. The old series lasted through 1995 and put out 59 books. Most written by Jackson and Livingstone either together or apart, with other authors being brought in towards the end. Puffin Books published them. They also published a four book series called Sorcery! written by Steve Jackson. The third book, The Seven Serpents, I found when I was a teenager, and is my only connection to the series.

A sort of one degree of separation.

Several years ago I picked up Sorcery! from E-Bay, but searching for it turned up the Fighting Fantasy Gamebooks. I now have eleven from that series, plus the other four, and I think it’s really cool that both of these authors are still writing books. I even had a chance to pick up The Shamutanti Hills for the iPhone, though it doesn’t seem to be on the App Store anymore.

But the latest book I started reading is Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert A. Heinlein. An interesting book that has a steady pace. It’s probably going to influence the rewrite of Across The Stars: The Lost Colony. Something that needs to be done.

And that’s where it lies at the end of January - D
